Discussion Questions

  1. Re-read all of Matthew 12. In light of Sunday’s sermon, what are you drawn to in this section of scripture? What questions do you have?

  2. Jesus responded to the misuse of authority in his own life and ministry (threats, insults, plots, etc) by basically ignoring them and continuing the work. How does that sit with you? On a gut level, how does that effect the way you consider his power?

  3. Jesus’ identity as Messiah was strange to the jews of his day because he did not fit their mold of Messiah. Consider your own testimony, how has Jesus broken your own expectations of how God might act toward his creation?

  4. Think about your own relationship with strength and power. Identify some ways that earthly and worldly power has corrupted or changed the way you think of God’s power. What might change in your life today if you were to take Jesus at his word regarding how he uses his strength?

  5. What was God telling you this week? What have you done about it?
