Discussion Questions

  1. Read all of Luke 9. How do you suppose the transfiguration of Jesus connected to these surrounding narratives? What questions pop in your head as you read? Write them down. What does this text show you about God’s glory?

  2. Go back and read the stories of God appearing to Moses and Elijah on the mountain top (Exodus 33 and 1 Kings 19). What do you see about God’s glory in these passages? What similarities are there to Jesus’ transfiguration story? What differences?

  3. Consider Jesus as the new and better tabernacle. How does Jesus help you to experience “God with you”? Be as specific as you can.

  4. What distracts you from ‘remembering’ Jesus? To use Augustine’s language, what are you enjoying that you should be using?

  5. Pastor Sam said that the glory of Jesus gives us an assurance that keeps us seeking Jesus in the trials and suffering of life. Does this ring true to you? Can you think of any examples of this in your own faith journey?

  6. Consider the quote from IMB missionary and martyr Karen Watson that Pastor Sam  shared. “When God calls there are no regrets. I tried to share my heart with you as much as possible, my heart for the Nations. I wasn’t called to a place. I was called to Him. To obey was my objective, to suffer was expected, His glory was my reward, His glory is my reward.” Interact with this. What do you like? Not like?

  7. What was God telling you this week? How about over this whole series? What have you done about it?
