Discussion Questions

  1. Read all of Matthew 6. What are you drawn to in this section of scripture? What questions pop in your mind. List them out. Do you see any common threads connected to prayer in this larger chunk of text?

  2. How would you describe your current practice of prayer? Does this spiritual discipline come easy to you or not? What does prayer look like for you in a typical day? List this out.

  3. What do you think of Piper’s definition of prayer as “Asking God for things” Do you like this or not? How might you define prayer in your own words? Be as specific as possible.

  4. Pastor Sam mentioned that many Christians struggle with the reality of seeking God’s daily provision. What are the sorts of ‘daily bread’ needs that you might begin to bring to God?

  5. If God already knows what you need before you ask, why do you pray? How would you answer this question? How does your answer affect the way you think about your own prayer life? Do you find that you actually believe that God delights to hear from you?

  6. What was God telling you this week? How about over this whole series? What have you done about it?
