Read all of Matthew 10. In light of Sunday’s sermon, what are you drawn to in this section of scripture? What questions do you have?
Jesus seems to teach in this passage that the mission has an inherent danger to it. How does this idea sit with you? Does it reflect your experience of mission and evangelism?
Pastor Sam talked about the different ways the opposition plays out in a society like ours where there is more religious freedom. One thing he mentioned was being culturally ignored or thought less of. Have you seen this play out in our context? Have you experienced this personally? How does it effect your willingness to proclaim the gospel in your circle?
It was mentioned that this kind of dismissal can deeply effect family relationships. Many folk in our church have siblings, children, or grand children who dismiss the gospel and think less of their family who follow Christ. What might it look like to remain faithful to minister to family who is dismissive or even openly hostile to the gospel?
We spent time celebrating the movement of the gospel in Colombia this last Sunday. Do you believe God can work that way in our community? Why or why not? What might have to change in our church family or cultural context to see work similar to what we see in Colombia?
What was God telling you this week? What have you done about it?
