Read all of Romans 12. What Ideas stick out to you? What sorts of ideas have you historically associated with this text? What questions do you have?
Over the course of the last three weeks, we’ve talked about the church as the living stones making up the temple of God, the church as the Holy Priests doing the work of God, and now the church as the actual sacrifice on the altar to God. How do these images sit with you? Do they resonate? Which one comes most easily to you? Most difficult? Why do you suppose that is?
It was mentioned that plugging into the life of the church requires actually showing up. How does this sit with you? Consider your own involvement at Immanuel. Do you feel like you’re walking in obedience in this area? Do you have a next step of obedience around presence in the life of the church?
Pastor Sam mentioned the idea that while you should expect to receive blessings from your church body, the relationship does not end there. Your church family should expect to receive from you as well. Can you recall some times when the giving and receiving of church life was important to your own faith journey?
Some of the practical needs in the church that folk will meet with they plug in include serving, giving financially, and building friendships. Evaluate your own experience of meeting needs in the life of the church. Do you have any next steps of obedience?
Pastor Sam mentioned that every Christian is both called and equipped to join in the work of discipleship. Are you being obedient to this call? Can you think of any specific folk in your church family or in your spheres of influence, God might be leading you to disciple? Write these names out. Consider bringing these names to God in prayer regularly.
What was God telling you this week? How about over this whole series? What have you done about it?
