Discussion Questions for 10/30/22

Read all of Ruth 2. What Ideas stick out to you? What sorts of ideas have you historically associated with this text? What questions do you have?

  1. Consider Ruth’s position in the story. She is poor. She is an outsider. She can expect prejudice and mistreatment. Why do you suppose YHWH is actually appealing to her?

  2. Read Joshua 6 and the story of Rahab. What similarities do you see between Rehab and Ruth? How does knowing Boaz’s own family history effect your understanding of his care for Ruth?

  3. Pastor Sam mentioned a common critique of Christianity centered around God’s ethical standards for Christians. How can God both lovingly accept anyone who approaches him and have moral standards? How can someone be loving while not actively supporting every desire of the object of the affection? How does this effect the way that you engage lostness in your own context?

  4. Think of your own faith journey. When have you found refuge under the wings of God? Or when have you found the love of God available to you in times of need? Where do you have practical needs of God here and now? What would need to happen for you to find refuge in him today? Now?

  5. What was God telling you this week? What have you done about it?
