Discussion Questions 04/24/22

Read John 4:1-28 before answering the below questions:

  1. Consider the imagery of water as an analogy for spiritual need throughout the entirety of the scriptural narrative. Can you think of any other images or metaphors that God seems to continually use throughout the whole Bible? How do they differ from the water image? How are they similar?

  2. Consider Jesus’ interaction with the woman at the well. He was able to see the real sin of her heart. Her present and unrepentant sin. Yet Jesus meets her with love, dignity, and inclusion in his person and his Messianic identity. How does this inform your view of God toward sinners? Toward you? Do you see God engaging you in your unrepentant sin with love, dignity, and invitation?

  3. The vision statement of Immanuel is inherently built around imagery. So what do you suppose is actually practically meant by being ‘filled up with Jesus’? How do you suppose one can practically and concretely experience this?

  4. What is keeping you today from drinking deep from the well of Christ?

  5. What was God telling you this week? What have you done about it?
