Prayerfully read John 20:1-23 before engaging the below questions. What words, phrases, or ideas stick out to you from that first Easter Sunday?
The resurrection of Christ is the lynchpin of all of Christianity. Why do you suppose that is? Write down some bullet points about how the resurrection actually affects the whole of the Christian worldview.
The resurrection was unexpected by the followers of Jesus on the first Easter Sunday. This makes sense since resurrection is so far outside our normal experience of life. How might you interact with someone whose main objection to Christianity is this supernatural claim?
Pastor Sam said that the peace (shalom) of Christ is distinctly different from how our culture generally thinks of peace. Often peace is considered the absence of conflict, whereas biblical shalom is the presence or restoration of completeness. How does this undergird your understanding of the Gospel message?
The peace of Christ is bought by the wounds of Christ. Interact with this idea. How can suffering and loss create peace and wholeness? Have you experienced this in your own life?
Pastor Sam said that part of the commission of Christ to his followers is to declare the truth that in Christ sins are forgiven. There is enough grace to go around. How does this sit with you? Interact with this idea for a few minutes.
