Read all of Matthew 5:13-26. This includes three distinct teachings. What Ideas stick out to you now? How do you suppose these teachings are connected or why did Jesus group them together?
What comes to mind when you consider this term “the Law”? Are they good or bad connotations? Why do you suppose that is?
Pastor Sam said that Jesus uses this term “the Law” as a short hand for the overarching ethical teaching of the Bible. Do you suppose there is an overarching ethical teaching to the Bible? Summarize it in your own words. What scriptural evidence can you give to support this?
For those in Christ, the law is a window into the heart of God. Interact with this idea. How does the Law of God show you the heart of God?
Had you heard the term antinomian before? The heresy that says because of Grace, your specific actions/disciplines don’t matter. Have you been guilty of this heresy? What practical steps might you need to take to actually grow in holiness this week?
