Read Genesis 3:1-24. What Ideas stick out to you? What sorts of ideas have you historically associated with this text?
Looking at the Genesis text, what can you learn about the nature of temptation to sin? Right down as many points as you can.
Pastor Sam said that Temptation is based on the lie that God isn’t as he actually is. It was also mentioned that temptations often begin with actual holy desires. The temptation asks us to fulfill these good desires in ways outside of God’s design. Do you see this pattern in your own life? What temptations are most common for you? Can you identify the lies about God’s heart for you in that temptation? Can you identify the desire of your heart that temptation is asking you to fulfill?
It was mentioned that on the other side of the cross it is easy to down play the weight of sin in our lives. We can become so calloused to certain sins that we simply have no real intention of repenting of them. What sins are you scheduling? How might your life look different if you were to treat them as actually deadly?
Re-read Romans 6. How does one balance taking the weight sin seriously while also living in the present and available grace of Jesus in their day to day walk of life?
